Getting your dream HR job in today’s highly competitive market can be tough. So getting one of our HR Recruitment Consultants on your side can give you a real edge. So how do we work?

Without sticking you in our shoes and having you do a week in our jobs it is probably hard for candidates to imagine what we do all day. So I thought perhaps I’d try and give you a quick insight into the realities of our world…

Today’s job market is highly competitive and Chiumento has very strong routes to market.  Each vacancy can attract anywhere between 20 and 200+ applications (depending on the job).

This contrasts sharply with the increasing client trend to ask us only to send them only our top 3, 4 or at most 5 candidates.

We are also often under considerable time pressure. Perhaps only 72 hours from posting a job on our website to submitting candidates to our client. Often the first CVs are coming in within 5 minutes of the job being advertised. Plus we are scouring databases that between them contain over 100,000 HR CVs.

Trying to reduce 200 candidates to 3 is tough. Especially when we have CVs that simply don’t contain the information we need to put them forward with confidence. In the time frames we work in it is impossible to phone 200 people to try and “fill in the blanks”. Please do read our advice on how to write a great CV – it really can make all the difference. The key is to make sure you establish quickly how you meet the key criteria contained in the job advertisement.

My key message is that your CV has to sell you to the Consultant and make it really clear how you fit the specific role you are applying for. It may be your dream HR job – now show us how you are our dream candidate!

A good recruitment consultant is a real ally. You need them on your side. Follow our guidelines and help us to help you.

So how can you attract our attention with your application, what would make you stand out?

  • Look at your CV, rarely now does one size fit all!  Too many CVs we see are generic and don’t address the skills or competencies we’ve outlined in the job advertisement.  For top tips on writing a winning CV click here.
  • Covering letter….. take time to produce one and make sure it covers off the practical issues of your application like travel and salary expectations as well as highlighting your expertise and experience. Candidates who drop out of interviews because the job is “too far away” or who later demand substantially higher salaries when the package on offer was made clear at the outset are a constant source of challenge.

Is the job really right for you?

Be prepared to discount yourself if the job is not a match.  You can always apply on our website to be considered for future jobs!  With up to 199 other CVs to choose from, your odds of success are minimal unless you can show you are a close match. “Long shot” applications are likely to make you frustrated and resentful about the level of rejections you get.  Focusing on the jobs which play to your strengths, are located in the right place and are offering the right salary will return better results.

Make sure we can contact you!

Ensure you are contactable. We still get lots of CVs with no telephone number! If you cannot answer your mobile during the day let us know a time to call you in your application. Also check your email regularly – at least once a day. Too many candidates use email accounts they rarely check and then wonder why they miss out!

If you miss a call from us it means we are interested in progressing your application, so call us back as soon as possible!

Managing your expectations

We can’t speak to everyone………please be realistic. We may be handling 20-30 live vacancies at any one time and may be searching through thousands of candidates to find a match. This makes having a one to one relationship with every applicant difficult, if not impossible.  We simply have to focus our time on supporting candidates who have a real chance of success. When it is your turn, you’ll really appreciate why that’s important and the difference it can make.

If you want to discuss a role still apply first…….we promise we do not send your CV anywhere without discussing a role first.   It is much better when you call if we can have your CV in front of us, we can then discuss your application and whether your CV provided will secure you that all important interview.  If you apply on line you will receive an initial acknowledgement, and then updates on the status of your application, by email. Sometimes we are able to tell you the outcome of your application very quickly but other times it may take weeks. It all depends on the speed and complexity of our client’s process. Once an offer has been accepted we ensure that every candidate for that role has been notified that they have been unsuccessful.
