My first contact with Chiumento was as a client – back in the days when I ran the resourcing team of a FTSE 100 company. I was immediately struck by how refreshingly different their style was. I never felt I was being sold to – rather they wanted to really get inside my problems and then work with me to solve them.
A few years and a job move later, Sarah Chiumento asked me if I’d ever consider joining the business. That was in 2008 and the rest is history. I succeeded Sarah as CEO in April 2013 and then as Chairman in August 2019.
As Chairman, my role is firmly focused on the future. I ensure everyone in the team understands what the Company is seeking to achieve and their part in getting us there. That’s more than a business plan – it is as much about culture (the how we do it) as it is about financials and KPIs.
Mike Burgneay now leads the operational side of the business leaving me free to explore new opportunities. That includes seeking out acquisitions that will strengthen and expand our offer to clients. I am also responsible for succession planning and executive development – ensuring we build teams that grow as fast as the business.
As holders of the Investors in People Gold award we believe in developing existing talent and I was therefore delighted when Duncan Hamilton joined the Board in 2018. I hope we’ll see more of our talented people joining him in the years ahead.
I am a Chartered Member of CIPD, hold BPS level A and B accreditation in occupational testing and am a member of the Register of Qualification in Test Use (RQTU).
