2020: The year of remote working success


Continuing our series of articles highlighting the positives we’ve taken from the past year our Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, Duncan Hamilton, shares his award-winning highlight of 2020.

2020 has been a strange year and one I do not want to repeat any time soon. But like the rest of the team here at Chiumento, there have been some positives, and things that I’ve learnt from it.

From a business point of view 2020 has shown what is possible if you work towards your vision.  When I joined the company in 2013 it was to focus on and improve the use of technology within Chiumento. This allowed us to reach our goal of becoming a totally remote working organisation when in 2017 we closed our last office. While at the time this was classed as somewhat radical, 2020 has more than shown that it was the right move to make.

Our focus on technology and how it can be used to work and collaborate more effectively has really helped us cope with 2020.  We already had everything in place for our team to work from their respective homes, our delegates could access all their tools and meet their coaches remotely, as that is how we already worked.  There was not a mass panic to move everything online or set up ways to work and communicate remotely.  We had already got it all in place.

The icing on the cake was being awarded the Investors in People Employer of the Year 2020. It proved that we had successfully made the move to a remote working model.
